There’s two ways to look at the daily commute: a slog that the typical worker needs to grit through every day to get to work and back. It’s a pain but part of the work cycle. The other way to look at it is a couple of hours everyday to enrich yourself; to just relax and shake off either the night before or the day of work.

We would always suggest you look at the world through the lens of the latter option. You may as well use your commute to your advantage because, as you’ve probably figured out by now, you’re going to have to do it every day.

Here are five ways to make the most and enrich your commute (with help from Lifehack).

1. Partner up

My Grandad would always say that there’s no limit to the distance you can walk if you’re with a good friend. The same goes for travelling into and from work. Having someone to talk to will keep your brain active, lift your spirits and help you forget any hang-ups.

2. Find some think space

You ever wonder why you have your best thoughts in the shower? It’s because you have nothing to distract you. Turn your phone off, stare out the window and let your mind wander.

3. Learn something new

People always say that they’d learn a new language if they had time to sit-down and try. That’s exactly what your commute can be. Instead of crushing some candies, download a language app or read a book or just buy a decent newspaper.

4. Make a call

Be sure to move out of the quiet coach before you make a call. Once you have a good spot, call up an old friend for thirty minutes or a relative. It’ll make their day and will make you feel better if you’ve had a rough couple of hours.

5. Take the scenic route

About 4 months ago I decided to boycott the tube forever. In London, I either walk or get the bus to somewhere I can walk from. Everything takes a little longer but I’m learning so much more about the city and not losing my soul to the underground!
